Grief workshop
On the 26th of July 2022 a Grief Counselling Workshop was held for 50 students at Avonford Secondary School. These students lost their loved ones during the Covid pandemic.
Losing a loved one to death is like entering a very dark tunnel suddenly. The transition from light to darkness would leave one fearful , unstable and without knowing what to expect in the journey ahead.
Many would remain stuck at the point of entry and the uncertainty holds them back from moving forward into the tunnel. The darkness goes as far as one’s eyes can see. When the parent is lost through death, the impact of their passing is devastating for the ones that remain. How do you continue life without the link that is broken?
This workshop aimed to assist the students through their initial process of dealing with grief and to direct them to the healing pathway.
The workshop was hosted by Metanoia Foundation (Director Claudia Sarvanna) and faciltated by qualified Grief Counselor Anne Naidoo.
We offered voluntary supportive counselling at Avonford Secondary School twice a week for 3 years. Through this initiative we have identified different areas that students need assistance. We engage in different activities to help learners through challenges they may have. The activities include workshops, informative talks, social media drives, ect.
